There must be so many people praying for Tyler’s blood pressure and infection! Yesterday he wasn’t doing too well and was requiring higher and higher levels of dopamine. Last night, his levels improved enough for them to try to wean him off a bit. He then tried to drink some water and was very ill for the next hour, until he finally vomited. No more liquids for awhile!
Tyler did great last night on a very low dose of dopamine, and today the team’s goal is to aggressively work to get him off completely. Once he’s off, we still have that 12 hour requirement to meet before he can go back upstairs. We’re hoping it will happen sometime tomorrow, but we realize that’s best case scenario, because he may not be able to tolerate being off the dopamine.
Tyler’s cultures never grew any bacteria, and he tested negative for flu, respiratory or heart conditions. So as predicted they have no idea of the source of his infection. It could have been something he was exposed to by a visitor, or more likely, he was infected by his own GI tract. Now that we’ve been through this, just to be on the safe side I think we will want visitors to be extra careful to make sure they are absolutely healthy.
Tyler still has difficulty sitting upright or standing – it makes him very dizzy. When he goes back upstairs, he’ll still be very weak and need a lot of special care, but fortunately not constant monitoring like he’s getting here. He will likely get some physical therapy to counteract these long days being bedridden.
Two praise reports: Tyler’s awful rash has vastly improved over the past 24 hours, and last night he was actually able to open his mouth for the doctor’s inspection. His mouth sores are healing!
