Tyler went down to the ICU around midnight last night. Discovering he had to go there brought him right out of his feverish stupor – he was NOT happy and remained awake and agitated the rest of the night. Ron and I believe Tyler is right where he needs to be now. We are thankful the doctors had the foresight to send him down before things became critical.
Tyler’s pulmonary condition has not gotten any worse. A second chest x-ray revealed no increase in the fluid in his lungs. The primary goal now is to get rid of the fluid. So far it’s still increasing, so things could worsen at any time. If all else fails, they will try dialysis. We’re hoping the Defibrotide will kick in in time to stop all the leakiness in his organs and allow the fluid to safely be absorbed.
Tyler’s rash is not getting better, despite being taken off two of the antibiotics thought to be causing it. He will have a skin biopsy taken later today. The other issue is that Tyler continues to carry a high fever. Sometimes he can speak coherently; sometimes only gibberish. Talking is a challenge for him as his mouth and tongue are still covered in sores and still so dry from being severely dehydrated. We don’t know how to help him. We can barely understand him and are not sure he can understand us.
Thank you for your words of encouragement and your continued prayers! My sister drove down from PA yesterday to keep us company during our bedside vigil, so know that we are being well cared for!
