Tyler McGinn 8x10 02My son is my hero.  About a month ago, he reluctantly agreed to participate in a free professional photo shoot offered to oncology patients, called Flashes of Hope.  Our appointment was set for November 17th at 9:30 AM.  Tyler hates having his picture taken.  But his mom convinced him that having professional photos of him would be a great Christmas, birthday and mother’s day gift combined.  What Tyler didn’t know was that by the time November 17th rolled around, he would have lost his eyebrows and eyelashes, be covered head to toe in an angry rash, and be terribly weakened by an infection that landed him in the PICU only days before.

This morning, Tyler clearly wanted nothing more than to pull the covers back over his head as opposed to getting his pictures taken.  I took pity, telling him I knew he was sick and it was ok if we didn’t do the photos.  I watched a determined look come over my son’s face as he insisted on getting into a wheelchair to be transported up to the 9th floor.  While I’m sure I will love the photos, what I love even more is my son’s committed, loyal, and loving spirit!
