The rapid cycling of good things – then bad things – then good things happening in one day is making me dizzy!
The day started off great, with Ty finally getting his chemo and some nourishment through his new NG tube. Unfortunately, he felt terrible and remained in pain.
There’s no way I can describe how awful the mucositis is for Tyler.
Late this afternoon, Tyler vomited from the mucositis, and the new NG tube came out. It was a very painful and scary experience.
So after two tube placements in two days, he was right back where he’d started. He also started with a fever.
His medical team determined they would not try to place another NG tube, but move to TPN, or total parenteral nutrition, that will go directly into his central line.
There are some drawbacks to TPN, which is why they had preferred to go the NG route first. TPN also means Tyler must take his sorafenib and other medications orally. Swallowing his meds now seems like a real possibility because they upped his morphine, and it is controlling the pain better.
The trade-off is that the higher dose makes him sleepy. The TPN will start tomorrow.
That brings us to later this evening, where we received the great news!
The results are back from one of the two potential donors who received further HLA testing. The donor is a 10 out of 10 match for Tyler!
Wow!!! God knew it’s been such a roller coaster ride for us this week, and in His perfect timing gave us the most amazing, wonderful and encouraging news!
