Today and yesterday were bad days. His mucositis progressed at a fast and furious pace. By yesterday evening, he was unable to speak or swallow easily, so the decision was made to try an NG tube again. By midnight, they stopped trying and gave him a break until today. Today they tried everything possible to make the next attempt go smoothly and prevent him from throwing it back up. Three top notch nurses made three separate attempts, but the tube just wouldn’t go in. The consensus is that something in Tyler’s anatomy prevents the tube’s proper placement. I’m pretty sure the next step is moving directly to TPN, which cannot be started until tomorrow evening. In the meantime, he gets fluids but no nutrition. Please pray for the mucositis to clear as soon as possible this time around.
