Tyler was doing really well until this morning, and for that we are so VERY thankful! Today he developed full blown mucositis and has had a fever. He’s on a broad-spectrum antibiotic while they wait to see if the cultures grow anything identifiable. His mucositis has him vomiting again, and the anti-nausea med they gave him is keeping him pretty sedated, although he’s restless and agitated in his sleep.
He also received platelets and blood today (interestingly, since right now he’s neither A+ nor B-, he will receive O blood products until he fully converts to B-). He was unable to eat or drink anything today, so they will consider starting TPN tomorrow. Tyler has now entered the period we knew was coming when so many things can go wrong.
