Tyler had a difficult night. His blood pressures dipped low and his fever topped 104. His GI problems plagued him, so once again it was a sleepless night. By morning his fever dropped a bit and we got his lab results. His bilirubin levels had increased, but his kidney levels had returned to normal. Still nothing has grown on Tyler’s cultures, so he continues to get three strong antibiotics.
As the day progressed, Tyler’s fever remained about 101, and this enabled him to enjoy time with his sister, who spent the day with Ty while I went home to nap. Now Tyler’s fever is creeping back up to 103. He is using a pain pump in hopes that it will allow him to tolerate drinking nutritional supplements. Basically, Tyler is experiencing all of the side effects that were discussed with us prior to starting the preparative chemo. Kidney issues, liver issues, mucositis, infection, rash, fever, nausea and diarrhea, losing the hair that had started to grow back. As his counts begin to recover, he should start feeling better. Then will come a second round of illness – the symptoms related to engraftment.
Tyler, Ron and I have felt so incredibly blessed with loving posts on the Guest Book as well as on Facebook. Your concern and prayers mean the world to us!
