Today is Day 8 post transplant. I don’t know how else to say it other than our boy is extremely ill. He is getting plenty of attention around here. His fever continues to range between 100 and 104, despite fever reducers. Every inch of him is hot to the touch. He is incapable of sleeping or resting, despite being on meds that normally knock him out. He is constantly nauseated. He has diarrhea. His lips are cracked and bleeding. He has a full body rash, including his palms and soles, and his face appears sunburned. They still don’t know the source of infection – a CT scan with contrast revealed no obvious fungal infection. His kidneys are not doing well on the Gentamicin and Vancomycin, and they looked abnormal in the CT scan. His bilirubin levels rose today, but still no other symptoms of VOD – he just remains jaundiced. The only thing that doesn’t burn the sores in his mouth is water, so again, he is getting no nutrition. It has all been simply too much for him to bear, yet he continues to bear it all.
Through our exhaustion and grief, the Lord continues to comfort and bless us in so many ways. This is a terrible road to walk, but we aren’t walking alone. We’re continually reminded of the prayers being lifted on Tyler’s behalf and our behalf. Thank you all for letting the Lord use you in our time of need!
