Tyler narrowly avoided the ICU all last night. His blood pressure had to be monitored every 15 minutes, and his fever wouldn’t break. Tyler had almost no sleep and was incoherent at times. They added Vancomycin to his other heavy hitting antibiotics. A bedside chest x-ray revealed no problems with his lungs, so all they know at this point is that he has a very serious infection. Like the previous times, his mucositis likely allowed bacteria into his blood stream. Fighting the infection will now take precedence over babying his liver. Instead, they will continue to closely monitor for signs of VOD and then treat it if/when it becomes an issue. Tyler has at least another week until his counts start to recover, and this is a very vulnerable time for his body.
